A Beautiful Dark by Jocelyn Davies
On the night of Skye’s seventeenth birthday, she meets two enigmatic strangers. Complete opposites—like fire and ice—Asher is dark and wild, while Devin is fair and aloof. Their sudden appearance sends Skye’s life into a tailspin. She has no idea what they want, or why they seem to follow her every move—only that their presence coincides with a flurry of strange events. Soon she begins to doubt not just the identity of the two boys, but also the truth about her own past.

In the dead of a bitingly cold Colorado winter, Skye finds herself coming to terms with the impossible secret that threatens to shatter her world. Torn between Asher, who she can’t help falling for, and Devin, who she can’t stay away from, the consequences of Skye’s choice will reach further than the three of them could ever imagine.

I’ll be upfront, I was a little torn about my feelings of A Beautiful Dark at first. I am not a big fan of love triangles typically, A Beautiful Dark is about just that…yet it works here. Davies’ has created a fascinating world, that while it’s been done before, is fresh and entertaining.

A Beautiful Dark has that typical thing going on a lot, actually. It doesn’t ruin the story for me, I actually enjoyed the book a lot, but it does leave me wanting a little something more. Skye is exactly that, your typical girl thrown into a paranormal world she knew nothing about. I like her a lot, but at times I wanted to scream at her for being foolish when it comes to the boys and how they treat her. As for the boys, each boy is completely different, yet each is lovable and the perfect boy in his own way. At least at times, they each toy with Skye a bit (hence me wanting to scream at her).

Despite the fact that it is a bit stereotypical of the YA paranormal realm, the mythology is very fascinating and I have very high hopes for book two! I definitely encourage everyone to check out the first book.
