Finally! A private conversation. And all I had to do was throw myself off a cliff, drown in a pond in my undies and let him put his hands on my breasts to bring me back to life. Yay me! (yeah, that’s sarcasm)
Yep, that pretty much sums up the most craptastic night of Jenna Baker’s life. She drowns after jumping off a cliff, meets a hotty named Chance in the pearlescent in-between and is brought back to life by her soon-to-be boyfriend Robert.
Just when things start to move forward with Robert, the guy she’d been crushing on for a year now, in walks the man of her dreams – literally. Chance suddenly appears in her dream every time she closes her eyes. So it’s Robert by day and Chance by night. One in the real world and one in the dream world. What could possibly go wrong?
Absolutely nothing – until she comes face to face with the guy she met in the in-between, and realizes her romantic rendezvous with Chance may be more than just her imagination.
I picked up Falling in Between and not really sure what to expect. At first I figured it’d be sad – hello, she “dies” and considering my current state of mind that’s not really a good thing. Then I wondered if it’d be cheesy, which is honestly what I was craving at the time. I went ahead and tried it only to be pleasantly surprised that it’s not that at all.
Jenna’s lived her life as a ward of the state. As the result, she’s led a pretty closed off life, she earned a scholarship to a rich prep school. The only one who knows the truth is her roommate.
After the fateful, crappy night…she now has a new boyfriend (the hottie she’s been crushing on!!!) and keeps getting visited in her dreams by a completely different cutie. I have to say, I loved the characters. Jenna is a realistic voice and while you feel for her for being an orphan, she’s not whiny. Let’s face it, that often happens…a character has something “wrong” and she/he has long inner-monologues about how they cannot believe how miserable life is.
Both guys were just great and so completely different. I can’t really go into much detail without spoiling things, but I will say each had many pluses. (Why aren’t there boys like this in ‘real life’?)
I think my favorite characters were the best friends – Sophie and Jhett. I love them! Each offers a bit of comedic value that the story desperately needed to break it up a bit.
I’m honestly not sure how to classify Falling in Between, romance lovers are going to be pleased. There obviously is a love triangle, but it wasn’t your typical love triangle…it was rather enjoyable and suspenseful for me. There is also the whole dream-aspect that will keep you guessing though..just what is actually going on?
