Fury by Elizabeth Miles

Between cozy traditions and parties with her friends, Emily loves the holidays. And this year’s even better–the guy she’s been into for months is finally noticing her. But Em knows if she starts things with him, there’s no turning back. Because his girlfriend is Em’s best friend.

On the other side of town, Chase is having problems of his own. The stress of his home life is starting to take its toll, and his social life is unraveling. But that’s nothing compared to what’s really haunting him. Chase has done something cruel…something the perfect guy he pretends to be would never do. And it’s only a matter of time before he’s exposed.

In Ascension, mistakes can be deadly. And three girls—three beautiful, mysterious girls—are here to choose who will pay.

Em and Chase have been chosen.

I was drawn to Fury initially because of the cover! It’s so gorgeous. Especially her hair! It’s a book I’d likely have gotten merely for the cover, but the synopsis is so intriguing. I was so curious to know what they’d been “chosen” for. When I began reading it, about 100 pages in I had to verify my thoughts as to what was going on. During that time I read a few reviews, the thoughts on Fury are very varying. I personally loved it!

The world that Miles has created is creepy and surprisingly realistic. It hits on things from bullying to relationship issues with a lovely paranormal and mythological twist. The three mystery girls that have popped up are so freaky! All characters are amazingly well-rounded. While I hated some actions of certain characters, I felt sorry for them in other scenes. They were spoiled (at least some of them were) but they had a nice refreshing depth. I actually started out really disliking the main characters and grew to love them pretty quickly.

Mythology lovers aren’t going to want to miss Fury, but it’s the sort of book I think has appeal to many different genres. Fury goes on sale August 30th.
