After Obsession by Carrie Jones and Steven E. Wedel

Aimee and Alan have secrets. Both teens have unusual pasts and abilities they prefer to keep hidden. But when they meet each other, in a cold Maine town, they can’t stop their secrets from spilling out. Strange things have been happening lately, and they both feel that something-or someone- is haunting them. They’re wrong. Despite their unusual history and powers, it’s neither Aimee nor Alan who is truly haunted. It’s Alan’s cousin Courtney who, in a desperate plea to find her missing father, has invited a demon into her life-and into her body. Only together can Aimee and Alan exorcise the ghost. And they have to move quickly, before it devours not just Courtney but everything around her.

I love Carrie Jones. I quickly read the Need series and her other books. So, I’m super excited to be taking place in the book tour. What a great post for my birthday!

After Obsession completely lived up to my expectations. The characters are so entertaining and well-written. It’s told in alternating point of views – Aimee’s and Alan’s, written by Carrie Jones and Steven E. Wedel respectively.

Going in I had no idea Alan was Indian. All I was aware of was that he was from the south. As always, that’s major bonus points for me, him being Native American just adds even more. He’s charming, cute, and just all around wonderful. He has dreams and thoughts of a spirit animal who is guiding him to help. Aimee has a boyfriend, but is instantly drawn to Alan. She also is having dreams and knows something is strange about where she lives. Aimee has special talents of her own.

My major complaint: I understand that Aimee and Alan are strangely attracted to one another. I get that the entire town is kind of going psychotic. But I really dislike insta-love unless it’s explained. It wasn’t really explained here. Within a week they are oh-so-in-love. If you can look past that, which I eventually was able to do, it’s an excellent read!

While the whole premise sounds really scary, it’s not really that bad. It was creepy enough to keep me in suspense, but not bad enough that it’ll keep some of the non-horror lovers turned away. I definitely don’t expect it to be one that’ll cause anyone nightmares!

If you love mythology (Native American, in this case), I think After Obsession is worth checking out. While the book is currently a standalone, I really hope we get to revisit these characters!

I’m never big on book trailers, but this one is an exception. It hints at the creepy vibe and leaves you completely curious. (Well, at least it did me) You can check it out on Facebook.
