Released by Megan Duncan
After a demon apocalypse kills their parents and everyone they know, 17-year old Abby Phillips, her brother, Carter, and friend, Max flee their home to travel through what has become the wastelands of America. When radio transmissions of a resistance offering shelter and safety cease, Abby is tempted to give up. Struggling to overcome life-threatening obstacles in their dangerous journey, Abby and her companions quickly discover there are much worse things lurking in the dark than they could have ever imagined.

Anything post-apocalyptic grabs my attention immediately, it’s my dark side. With Released, Megan Duncan has created an interesting world in which Abby and the remaining two people closest to her are trying to get to what they imagine is safety in New Mexico. These poor three have lived through Hell on earth. Everyone they’ve known and cared about has been picked off one by one and to make matters worse the creatures just keep coming.

Each character, despite everything, are amazingly strong and realistic. Carter documents everything they learn about the demons in hopes that it can help the military once they get to safety, plus it keeps him sane. Abby and Max will stop at no ends to keep Carter and each other safe. Abby still is trying to maintain a sense of normal in her life and I completely could see myself doing that, because of that I love these characters!

It did remind me a bit of a zombie novel, which as many of you know I’m not a fan of zombies. The resembelances though were things about the zombie books I like -the fear/the whole “what will they do to survive” mentality. Released was a quick, fun adventure read that kept me wondering what they’d come across next!

I’m really hoping that Duncan will revisit this world she’s created in the future! I can see many different potential ways it can go.

If you like post-apocalyptic books, be sure and check Released out! It’s only .99 in e-book form, but is also available in paperback form. It’s a great fun read!
