I am kind of in a bit of shock over how much I loved this book. When things are explained away as “magic” the book takes a major hit or miss for me. I’m not a big magic person, so I have to really love the story. This book read like a romantic fairy tale with a splash of magic, it also felt more like a contemporary at times than something magical. I actually find myself a bit disappointed in the lack of magic, because I figured there’d be a bit more of it. But I’m not so disappointed that I don’t feel like touting this book as a big “must read” for this year.
There’s no secret I love romance, but I don’t tend to read books that are strictly romance. I like that little balance a good storyline has to offer with the romance thrown in. Spellbound is that book, it’s a strong story that I devoured pretty quickly because I just HAD to know where it was going.
Emma has led a hard life so far, especially in the past two years. She’s remarkably tough and smart. Brendan is dreamy, protective, and just perfect…but he also has just a touch of a violent streak. I felt that their love had a great build-up. One thing I didn’t like was the lack of Cisco. Seriously, I loved him!
I’m hoping there will be a second book to further tie up some of the few loose ends that were left.
