How one book can be filled with such sadness, yet so much hope always leaves me in awe. The Survival Kit is one of those books. The synopsis made me think of some of my favorites, P.S. I Love You or 13 Little Blue Envelopes, so I knew I had to read it.
Rose has shut herself off from normal life, which is totally understanding considering the circumstances. Losing your mother cannot be easy. But what a treasure these bags must be, I love the idea behind them. Like Rose, Will is hurting and bitter, again, for a good reason. Each character in The Survival Kit is well-written and realistic.
The plot is slightly predictable, but I still found it very enjoyable. I also enjoyed that music played such a heavy part in The Survival Kit. Rose was a big music fan, before her mom’s death, so her mom left her an iPod filled with music. A list of the music is provided, so I definitely plan on creating the playlist to give it a listen.
