Fracture by Megan Miranda

Sooo, Sunday night I realized I hadn’t written this review. I’m sleep-deprived and pretty much ready to fall over at any moment. I apologize in advance for any obvious ditzy moments (that could lead to humor for you guys)

Eleven minutes passed before Delaney Maxwell was pulled from the icy waters of a Maine lake by her best friend Decker Phillips. By then her heart had stopped beating. Her brain had stopped working. She was dead. And yet she somehow defied medical precedent to come back seemingly fine – despite the scans that showed significant brain damage. Everyone wants Delaney to be all right, but she knows she’s far from normal. Pulled by strange sensations she can’t control or explain, Delaney finds herself drawn to the dying. Is her altered brain now predicting death, or causing it?

Then Delaney meets Troy Varga, who recently emerged from a coma with similar abilities. At first she’s reassured to find someone who understands the strangeness of her new existence, but Delaney soon discovers that Troy’s motives aren’t quite what she thought. Is their gift a miracle, a freak of nature-or something much more frightening?

You know those book covers that you see and you immediately know “I’m going to love this book”? Then you read the synopsis and are even more excited…that was Fracture for me. The cover is just GORGEOUS, the colors…the reflection. The synopsis made me think “oh a creepy thriller/contemporary?” I wasn’t really sure what to think. (If you haven’t read it – it’s pretty hard to classify, but it’s not contemporary!) The fact it was being compared to Before I Fall and If I Stay had me even more intrigued – I loved those books.

When Bloomsbury asked if I wanted to review it for the tour, I hopped on it. I was already planning on reading it for those reasons, so why not? SO happy I did. I LOVED this book. The opening line is one of those that haunts you and pulls you in at the same time – “The first time I died, I didn’t see God.”.

Some scenes when Delaney was in the hospital had me so creeped out I was afraid to go to sleep. I’m not typically one that gets spooked easily. The further I got into Fracture the more I found myself wondering just what was going on. I had suspicions, but it was never clear to me until the big reveal for sure. Kind of like I was living through what Delaney was going through.

The characters were all very intriguing. At times Delaney actually annoyed me. I get she was going through a horribly traumatic event, but some of her reactions to things kind of made me mad. Then at others I completely saw where she was coming from. Troy was probably my favorite, so kind hearted and yet so mysterious.

Fracture is a must read for all YA-readers. It has a little bit of something for everyone.

I received my copy of Fracture courtsey of Bloomsbury in exchange for my honest opinion.
