Review + Giveaway: Angel Eyes by Shannon Dittemore

Today I am reviewing Angel Eyes as part of the tour, but be sure and check the bottom of the post for a giveaway of a Nook Color and a copy of the book!

Angel Eyes coverOnce you’ve seen, you can’t unsee. Everything changes when you’ve looked at the world through . . .

Brielle’s a ballerina who went to the city to chase her dreams and found tragedy instead. She’s come home to shabby little Stratus, Oregon, to live with her grief and her guilt . . . and the incredible, numbing cold she can’t seem to shake.

Jake’s the new guy at school. The boy next door with burning hands and an unbelievable gift that targets him for corruption.

Something more than fate has brought them together. An evil bigger than both of them lurks in the shadows nearby, hiding in plain sight. Two angels stand guard, unsure what’s going to happen. And a beauty brighter than Jake or Brielle has ever seen is calling them to join the battle in a realm where all human choices start.

A realm that only angels and demons—and Brielle—can perceive.

Books about angels are always hit or miss for me. I’m really skittish reading anything slightly religious. Mostly because everyone’s views on things are so varied and it’s such a touchy subject. In Angel Eyes religion was a big factor, but it wasn’t to the point that it felt too much like a lecture. That said, if you are a reader that honestly dislikes religious mentions – this one isn’t for you.

I have to say, personally, the religion didn’t bug me. (While I’m Christian, I typically dislike religion in my books – I’m odd. ;) ) I was hooked by the plot and the characters.

Brielle, had a mysterious past that we gradually got hints of. That alone was enough to keep me guessing and entertained. When Jake came into the picture, I was fearing some Twilightesque romance. But Dittemore made Angel Eyes into a huge mystery. You didn’t learn exactly what Jake is (or why he is the way he is) until further into the story.

Although, on the Twilight note, Dittemore made a few Twilight pop-culturey references that made me cringe. Once and I could’ve ignored it, but then another happened. While that didn’t hinder my opinion of the book, I couldn’t help but wish they weren’t there.

The plot behind Angel Eyes was a bit predictible, but with the mystery behind the character’s history I was hooked! It’s pretty fast-paced and, despite being somewhat predictable, the plot is entertaining.

Even with my few little irritants, I can’t wait to read the next book in the trilogy!

I received Angel Eyes from the publisher and Litfuse in exchange for my honest opinion.
